Inclusive Community Space “You Belong” Temporarily Closed After Major Flooding
You Belong, an inclusive and accessible nonprofit, community space and indoor learning and play area serving children of all abilities and their families, is temporarily closed following a significant flooding incident caused by a burst pipe earlier this week.

The incident resulted in extensive water damage throughout the facility, including the kitchen, Adventure Zone, bathrooms, and main program areas. In some areas, standing water reached several inches to nearly a foot deep, forcing water out through the front doors and into the parking lot. You Belong is working closely with restoration professionals and insurance partners to remove water, assess the damage, determine the scope of repairs and timeline for reopening.

“While the damage is significant, what has stood out most is the immediate and overwhelming support from our community,” said Amy Behrend- Executive director. “People showed up ; wading through water, offering help, sending messages of encouragement, and reminding us why this space exists in the first place.”

You Belong and its Adventure Zone were intentionally designed to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for children of all abilities, and for families who often struggle to find accessible, judgment-free spaces. Much of the facility was built with community involvement, making the damage particularly personal. Amy shares: “This space was built with incredible care and love, and while this is a setback, we are committed to rebuilding in a way that continues to serve our community well.” You Belong provides inclusive play, family programming, advocacy, and connection for children with and without disabilities and their caregivers. The Adventure Zone and all programming have been paused while assessments and repairs are underway. An estimated reopening timeline is not yet available, but they anticipate having to be closed for most of February. They will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Community Support Requested
As You Belong moves into recovery, the organization anticipates significant costs and losses related to repairs, replacement of appliances and materials, and restoration of play structures and program spaces and having to be closed for weeks.

“You Belong has always been more than a building,” Allison Koehn, Director of Family Programming, added. “It’s a place where families feel seen, supported, and welcomed. Its about belonging, dignity and community. The response we’ve seen reminds us why this work, and this community, matters so deeply.”

Updates regarding volunteer work days, reopening and programming will be shared as more information becomes available.
